Case Studies

Case Study #1:

Colliers International is a commercial real estate firm providing integrated real estate services including property management. One of the Toronto buildings they manage is located at 121 Bloor Street East.

Challenge:

The exterior cladding, anodized aluminum on the outside of the building had oxidized and faded with age. Property management was sourcing a solution to improve the look of the building.

Solution:

Over the years Cancore has developed the necessary skills and trained a group of employees to restore exterior surfaces through compound cleaning. Over a period of six months the metal panels were restored to a pleasing luster, a result many believed was not possible.

Case Study #2:

RSA is one of Canada's leading property and casualty insurance companies. They are the largest marine insurer and the second largest travel insurer in Canada, with their head office building situated at 10 Wellington Street East.

Challenge:

In the early 90s due to staffing challenges and the implementation of a Facilities Management Strategic Plan, RSA decided to outsource many of their building services, which had previously been done "in house" or by a variety of contractors.

Solution:

Initially, starting from the minor role of part time building operator, Cancore grew to become an integral part of RSA's building services. Over the years Cancore supplied a growing list of responsible services at 10 Wellington Street East, including:

  • Staff of Building Operators
  • Nightly Janitorial Staff
  • Day Staff
  • Window Cleaning Services
  • Carpet Cleaning Services
  • Plant Care Services
  • Cafeteria Staff
  • Absentee and Vacation Replacement Staff

Results:

Reliable and cost efficient solutions, using professional and well trained personnel provided by Cancore, allowed RSA Facilities Management to concentrate on their core business.

Case Study #3:

Sun Media Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Quebecor Media Inc. is Canada's largest newspaper publisher. Sun Media is also involved in the operation of Sun TV, a general interest television station in Toronto.

Challenge:

In 1989 the Toronto Sun was considering contracting out their janitorial cleaning services, while already having their own caretaking staff. At the time, one of the commitments the Toronto Sun made to its staff was no one would lose their job.

Solution:

Over the period of a few years Cancore staffed an increasing number of positions at Sun Media, while the previous caretakers:

  • were offered other positions in the building
  • retired or were offered early retirement
  • were retained and through attrition, Cancore staffed each position

Results:

The nightly janitorial, carpet care, and window cleaning services were handled by Cancore on a contract basis, while the existing janitorial staff were treated with respect during the transition.
